Pangan: Into entrepreneurship

MOST college graduates rarely venture into business as their school orientation focuses mainly on clerical jobs.

Finding jobs immediately after graduation is a tough act and most, if not all of them, give up trying after several attempts. The result? The list of the unemployed balloons into unmanageable numbers.

Analysts say the main problem is the job mismatch or the lack of qualifications for the desired positions; hence, the increasing number in unemployment equation. What seems to be the main cause for such undesirable situation? We don’t have a shortfall in college instruction curriculum. Why, we even have the K-12 to ostensibly prepare students to enter the labor force. As a matter of fact, some labor practitioners even bruited the idea that even the graduates of senior high school can now handle minimal job positions and some basic trainings added.

Tesda, which is now under the Department of Labor and Employment, offers short-term courses to those who are willing to become entrepreneurs.

Some financial institutions offer loans as start-up capital for small to medium enterprises. This is one safe way to start earning as small businessmen and, by and through, persistence may see businesses grow into large ones.

Every aspiring entrepreneur must have a business plan. And a good business plan must be designed to explore the anticipated opportunities.

It is different in having a franchise on branded products. In this venture, a sizeable capital investment, namely the franchise fee, is to be considered. There are many available franchises in the market today.

A good business plan is essential to developing the opportunity and determining the resources required, obtaining the resources and successfully managing the venture.

It is advisable for fresh graduates to think and plan to become entrepreneurs and not to become mere clerks in some public and private offices. This is the proper way to achieve a strong middle class status that could help the government and country.
