Suarez beats Magali in huge UKC show

CHARLY Suarez again proved he’s a cut above the competition after one-sided unanimous decision victory over experienced former regional champion Carlo Magali in the main event of “Ultimate Knockout Challenge: Battlefield” on Oct. 23 at The Flash Grand Ballroom of the Elorde Sports Complex in Parañaque City.

Suarez, a former Olympian, totally outclassed the veteran Magali and got the nod of all three judges with scores of 119-109, 118-110 and 119-109.

Suarez successfully defended his World Boxing Association (WBA) Asia and Philippine GAB super featherweight titles.

The 34-year-old Suarez continued his hot streak in the pro ranks and improved to 13-0 with seven knockouts, while Magali dropped to 25-14-3 with 13 knockouts.

Suarez is currently rated No. 37 by the World Boxing Council (WBC).

In the main supporting bout, Marjohn Yap (31-17, 15 KOs) ended a four-fight losing slump after beating Papuan prospect Junior Raka (2-2, 1 KO) by unanimous decision.

Yap ensured his victory after knocking down Raka in the eighth and final round.

In the show’s morning session, undefeated middleweight prospect Weljohn Mindoro beat Junjesie Ibgos (TKO, 1st); Roy Sumugat destroyed Ivor Lastrill (TKO, 7th); Jerald Into defeated Eduardo Mancito (UD); Reymark Alicaba beat Jerico Gatchalian (TKO, 2nd); Jestine Tesoro stopped Remon Basas (TKO, 2nd); Erson Trinidad demolished Juanito Hundante (TKO, 3rd); Jino Rodrigo beat Kelvin Tenorio (KO, 3rd); Rey Orais won against Junuel Lauza (TKO, 2nd); Donald Laurejas outscored Ronel Samar (UD); Eddie Alcoba Jr. had a successful pro debut against Benedicto Abrigo Jr. (KO, 1st); and Romeo Tenorio beat Julius Bala (UD).
