PRESIDENT Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has appointed Ormoc City Mayor Lucy Torres-Gomez as the new chairperson of the Regional Development Council (RDC) Eastern Visayas.

Alongside Torres-Gomez, the president also appointed Leo Christian Lauzon as co-chairperson.

Lauzon is the RDC-Eastern Visayas private sector representative for persons with special concerns (youth, children, women, persons with disabilities, and senior citizens).

“We are truly happy over the honorable mayor’s appointment, knowing fully well of her sincere commitment to help RDC-8 deliver its mandate of accelerating the socio-economy development of Eastern Visayas,” said Mylene Rosales, regional director of the National Economic and Development Authority (Neda).

Marcos signed the appointment a day before he visited Ormoc as the guest of honor during the 75th Charter Day celebration last October 20, 2022.

Other nominees for RDC chairperson include Tacloban City Mayor Alfred Romualdez, Leyte Governor Carlos Jericho Petilla, Baybay City Mayor Jose Carlos Cari, and Maasin City Mayor Nacional Mercado.

The RDC-Eastern Visayas is the highest policy-making body in the region and is the primary institution “that coordinates and sets the direction of all economic and social development efforts” in Eastern Visayas. (SunStar Philippines)
