SEVEN families composed of 24 individuals were evacuated in the towns of Binalbagan and Moises Padilla due to bad weather Wednesday night, October 26, triggered by Tropical Depression Paeng.

According to the state weather bureau, the shearline and trough of the tropical depression are affecting Visayas and some parts of the country.

Dr. Zealhard Caelian, head of the Provincial Disaster Management Program Division (PDMPD), said a family of four needed to transfer temporarily at the residence of their relative in Moises Padilla around 6 p.m.

In Binalbagan, six families composed of 20 individuals temporarily sought shelter at the Nabuswang Elementary School Wednesday night, Caelian said.

He noted that classes are suspended at all levels Thursday, October 27, in the cities of San Carlos and La Carlota, as well as in Pontevedra town.

Caelian said classes at the elementary and secondary levels in Moises Padilla town are also canceled Thursday.

Work at various schools in San Carlos City has also been halted.

In Bago City, Mayor Nicholas Yulo declared class suspension in all levels, from pre-school to college, in both public and private schools Thursday also due to the bad weather.

On Tuesday night, rains experienced in Negros Occidental, particularly in San Carlos City, caused a landslide.

Caelian said the San Carlos City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO) reported that a landslide took place around 8:30 p.m. along the upper portion of the city’s Eco-translink Highway.

No one was hurt in the landslide, although the debris blocked the highway that links San Carlos City with the localities of Don Salvador Benedicto Murcia, and Bacolod City.

Several buses were reported to have been stuck for at least 30 minutes, prompting the DRRMO to call in its dozers to clear out the debris, as well as the large boulders that blocked the road.

Their trucks, meanwhile, were utilized to transport the stranded travelers bound for San Carlos City.
