Four Cebu LGUs get DILG nod

ONLY four local government units (LGUs) in Cebu were awarded the Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) for 2022.

Among the 350 LGUs nationwide to have been awarded the SGLG this year, only the component cities of Talisay and Danao and the municipalities of San Remigio and Sogod made it to the list.

Aside from the four LGUs in Cebu, two other towns from Central Visayas—Larena in Siquijor and Alburquerque in Bohol—were also awarded with the SGLG.

The DILG published the list of this year’s SGLG winners in its website on Thursday, Oct. 27, 2022.

Criteria

The SGLG is a progressive assessment system adopted by the DILG to give remarkable local governments distinction for their performance across several areas.

To win the award, LGUs must pass the core areas of financial administration, disaster preparedness, social protection and tourism, health compliance and responsiveness, programs for sustainable education, business-friendliness and competitiveness; safety, peace and order; environmental management, tourism, heritage development, culture and arts; and youth development.

In a statement sent to SunStar Cebu on Thursday, Sogod Mayor Lissa Marie “Moonyen” Durano-Streegan noted that it was the fourth time that the northern Cebu town has been awarded with the SGLG.

“I am beyond elated to know that for the fourth time the Municipality of Sogod has been conferred with the Seal of Good Local Governance. This only validates our consistent and continued commitment to a transparent, accountable, and efficient local government,” Streegan said.

Streegan thanked municipal officials and personnel for helping the town achieve this year’s SGLG award.

For his part, Talisay City Mayor Gerald Anthony “Samsam” Gullas Jr. said this was the first time the city was awarded with the SGLG.

In a statement posted on Facebook, Gullas thanked city government employees for helping them achieve the award.

“We strived for this the whole first term to be recognized as one of the LGUs in the whole country to symbolize integrity and good performance,” Gullas said.
