DepEd-Davao logs 2,377 Covid-19 cases but only 18 active cases remain

THE Department of Education in the Davao Region tallied a total of 2,377 confirmed Covid-19 cases among students, teachers, school heads, and non-teaching staff as of October 24, 2022.

The data shared by DepEd-Davao spokesperson Jenielito Atillo on October 25 showed that the majority of these confirmed cases have already recovered but 18 are currently active which include nine students and nine teachers.

Among the active cases, five are in Mati City while the rest are from Panabo City, Tagum City, Davao City, and Davao Occidental with one case each while six teachers are from Davao City while Davao de Oro, Davao del Sur, and Digos City have one case each.

Atillo emphasized during a media forum that the transmission of Covid-19 among the students, teachers, school heads, and non-teaching personnel did not spread inside the schools.

“Wala diha gikan sa school. Ang tinugdan sa virus, sa communities nato (The transmission did not spread in our schools, the virus came from the communities). That’s why we keep reminding our people, specifically the schools, kinahanglan strikto gyod ang implementation sa health and safety protocols nato (we really need to have strict implementation of the health and safety protocols),” Atillo said.

Of the DepEd-Davao Covid-19 population, teachers made up most of the confirmed cases with 1,666 recoveries and 41 deaths, while non-teaching personnel came second with 343 cases recovered and one death.

It is followed by 214 students who have already recovered while three succumbed to the disease, and 105 recovered school heads, and three deaths.

Out of the provinces and cities in Davao Region, Davao City had the most number of cases among the DepEd population with 608 confirmed cases, followed by 368 cases from Davao del Sur, 259 cases from Davao del Norte.

The rest have less than 200 cases each while the least number of cases came from the Island Garden City of Samal with 81 cases. ICM
