LOCAL police arrested a farmer from Barangay Mantalongon, Dalaguete town in southern Cebu on Friday morning, Oct. 27, 2022, after several firearms and ammunition were found inside his house.

Alejandro Besin Glipa, 49, a resident of Sitio Sampig in Barangay Mantalongon, was arrested by operatives of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group’s (CIDG) Cebu Provincial Field Units in cooperation with personnel from the Cebu Police Provincial Office and the Dalaguete Police Station.

Maj. Nazarino Emia, chief of CIDG’s Cebu Provincial Field Unit, told Superbalita Cebu that they conducted a raid on Glipa’s house based on a search warrant issued by Judge Francis Rainer Navarrete of the Regional Trial Court Branch 93 in Argao town.

The search warrant was based on a complaint filed against Glipa for violating Republic Act 10591 or for illegal possession of firearms.

During the search, Emia and his personnel recovered a .45 caliber pistol with magazine, five bullets, a magazine from a 9mm pistol and an improvised .22 caliber rifle.

Glipa failed to provide a gun owner’s license or documentation to prove that the firearms were legally bought. He was immediately arrested and turned over to the court.

Emia said Glipa was reportedly involved in several shooting incidents in Dalaguete.

Glipa’s neighbors also reported to the police to complain about the suspect’s tendency to show off and discharge his firearms whenever he was drunk.

“His (Glipa) neighbors were often afraid of him because whenever he got drunk, he took out his firearm and discharged it, then pointed it at them as a threat,” Emia said, in Cebuano. (GPL / JKV)
