INSTEAD of just attending parties and other social gatherings during the long weekend, Novaliches Bishop Emeritus Teodoro Bacani on Friday, October 28, 2022, called on the Filipino faithful to offer prayers in observing the All Saints’ and All Souls’ Days.

In a radio interview, Bacani said the long weekend must be spent to pray for those to whom the holidays are dedicated: saints and departed loved ones.

"Let us make these days about the saints and our departed loved ones, instead of using it to go partying," said Bacani.

He said prayers are the best way to observe the twin holidays observed annually.

In particular, the retired prelate said praying is the best way to honor saints on November 1 for the sacrifices and strong faith they have shown.

"For November 2, we must pray for the souls of the departed because it is through prayers that we can hope that they can reach heaven someday," added Bacani.

November 1 (Tuesday) is a special non-working day in observance of the All Saints’ Day, while November 2 (Wednesday) is a special working day due to the All Souls’ Day.

This weekend, however, the faithful are already expected to flock to cemeteries and columbariums, especially after October 31 (Monday) was tagged as a special non-working holiday. (HDT/SunStar Philippines)
