THE Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) in Eastern Visayas has readied family food packs as it braced for the impact of Tropical Storm “Paeng” (international name: Nalgae) in the region.
As of Thursday evening, October 27, 2022, the agency has prepositioned some 37,515 family food packs (FFPs) and 14,342 non-food items in various strategic locations in Eastern Visayas.
Of this number, 14,243 FFPs were in Allen, Northern Samar; 1,031 in Catbalogan City, Samar; 1,650 in Naval, Biliran; 800 in Borongan City, Eastern Samar and 15,791 in the Regional Resource Operations Center, Palo, Leyte.
In local government units, 600 FFPs were in Almagro, Samar; 1,400 in Sto Niño, Samar; 1,000 in Taft, Eastern Samar, and 1,000 in Giporlos, Eastern Samar.
“Currently, Project Development Officers of the Disaster Response Management Division and City/Municipal Action Teams have been alerted and are continuing to coordinate with the LGUs,” said DSWD-Eastern Visayas.
As this developed, the Police Regional Office also deployed 494 Reactionary Standby Support Force (RSSF) as it continued to monitor the weather disturbance.
According to the state weather bureau, Paeng has intensified, packing maximum sustained winds of 65 kph near the center, and gustiness of up to 80 kph.
It was last spotted 510 kilometers (km) east of Borongan City, Eastern Samar, moving west-northwestward at 10 kph.
According to Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 has been hoisted over Catanduanes, the eastern portion of Albay (Rapu-Rapu), and the eastern portion of Sorsogon (Prieto Diaz, Gubat, Barcelona, Bulusan, Santa Magdalena, Irosin, Juban, Casiguran, City of Sorsogon) Eastern Samar, Northern Samar, and Samar.
