DILG recognizes 15 LGUs in Davao for good governance

THE Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) has awarded 15 local government units (LGUs) in Davao Region the Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG).

DILG announced the list of winners on Thursday, October 28.

For the provinces, Davao del Norte and Davao Oriental were awarded the SGLG, while Mati, Digos, and Island Garden City of Samal were awarded the city category.

On the municipality level, DILG awarded it to Maragusan, Monkayo, and New Bataan in Davao de Oro; Bansalan, Matanao, and Sulop in Davao del Sur; Don Marcelino in Davao; and Banaybanay, Lupon, and San Isidro in Davao Oriental.

The SGLG is a progressive assessment system adopted by the DILG to give local governments remarkable distinction for their performance across several areas.

To win the award, LGUs must pass the core areas of financial administration, disaster preparedness, social protection and tourism, health compliance and responsiveness, programs for sustainable education, business-friendliness and competitiveness; safety, peace and order; environmental management, tourism, heritage development, culture and arts; and youth development.

SGLG became a law on August 2, 2019, known as Republic Act No. 11292, also known as “The Seal of Good Local Governance Act of 2019”.

Davao del Norte Governor Edwin Jubahib said in a statement that the award is an accomplishment under his administration.

“Akong ginahanyag kini nga award sa atong katawhan sa Davao del Norte. Nagpakita kini sa atong dedikasyon ug sinsero nga paningkamot aron molambo ang kahimtang sa atong katawhan ug alang sa pag-uswag sa atong ekonomiya (I dedicate this award to my constituents in Davao de Norte. This shows our dedication and sincerity in achieving progress to improve the condition of our people and for economic progress),” Jubahib said.

Digos City Mayor Josef Cagas said in a Facebook live video Friday morning, October 28 that this is the third time the city received the said award.

"Malipayon ta niini. Pasabot niini dungag kalambuan ug pagsalig sa katawhan ug mga negosyante (We are happy with this award. This shows additional progress, and trust and confidence by the people and the business sector)," Cagas said.

The mayor said he will continue to implement reforms that would improve and address the needs of his constituents and attain progress for the city. RGL
