LAWMEN have arrested one person and seized more than P1.9 million worth of smuggled cigarettes in an anti-smuggling operation in Zamboanga City, the police reported Saturday, October 29.
Arrested by joint police and Bureau of Customs (BOC) personnel was Norben Sangam, 27, according to Police Colonel Alexander Lorenzo, Zamboanga City Police Office (ZCPO) director.
Lorenzo said that Sangam was arrested around 8:30 p.m. Friday, October 28, on Azucena Drive, Sitio Suterville, in San Jose Gusu village.
Sangam was arrested when the joint police and BOC personnel responded to an intelligence report about the presence of smuggled cigarettes in San Jose Gusu village.
Lorenzo said the joint team seized a total of 55 master cases of assorted smuggled cigarettes worth P1,925,000.
He said Sangam and the confiscated smuggled cigarettes were turned over to the custody of the BOC for proper disposition. (SunStar Zamboanga)
