Asian bishops pray for victims in South Korea stampede, PH storm

MEMBERS of the Federation of Asian Bishops' Conferences (FABC) on Sunday, October 30, 2022, offered prayers for the victims of the deadly stampede in South Korea as well as those of the Severe Tropical Storm Paeng.

Speaking during the closing Mass of the 50th FABC General Conference in Bangkok, Thailand, Pope Francis' special envoy to the assembly Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle led the Asian bishops in praying for the victims of the twin tragedy that hit the region over the weekend.

“We pray in a particular way for the victims of the stampede that happened in Korea yesterday,” said Tagle.

“We also pray for those who have been affected by the storm,” he added.

A total of 154 people died in Seoul, South Korea after a stampede crushed people in the narrow streets and alleyways in the Itaewon district.

On the other hand, a total of 98 people perished, 69 were left injured, and 63 were missing after Severe Tropical Storm Paeng hit almost the entire Philippines.

More than 200 cardinals, archbishops and bishops from different Asian countries attended the 19-day assembly in Bangkok.
