RESIDENTS of Zamboanga City are advised to remain vigilant, as the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) reported that another weather disturbance, Queenie, entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Monday, October 31, 2022.

Pagasa said that Queenie, which was last located 815 kilometers east of northeastern Mindanao as of noontime Monday, October 31, has intensified into a tropical storm.

Mayor John Dalipe has tasked member-agencies of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council to be on alert for possible risks and hazards that the Queenie might cause.

Dalipe said rescue teams should be on standby to respond during emergency situations, as he called on the Barangay Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Councils (BDRRMCs) to consistently monitor the situation in their respective areas of responsibility and to initiate preemptive measures to avoid loss of lives and properties.

Zamboanga City has been placed under a state of calamity in view of the devastation wrought by Tropical Storm Paeng.

The Emergency Operations Center (EOC) stationed at the CDRRMO remains activated 24/7 to respond to any eventuality.

However, Pagasa said that Queenie is not seen to affect the country's weather conditions although it has intensified into a tropical storm.

It packed maximum sustained winds of 65 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 80 kph.

So far, no Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) has been hoisted in any part of the country due to Queenie.

Meanwhile, Pagasa said Tropical Storm Paeng is expected to leave the country Monday afternoon or in the evening. (SunStar Zamboanga)
