Cops nab 1, seize P75,000 smuggled cigarettes

LAWMEN have arrested one person and seized some P75,000 worth of smuggled cigarettes in Zamboanga City, the police reported Monday, October 31, 2022.

Police Colonel Richard Verceles, operations chief of the Area Police Command-Western Mindanao, said the shipment of smuggled cigarettes was seized around 2:31 p.m. Monday, October 31, in Sitio Mialim, Vitali village, Zamboanga City.

Verceles said arrested was Al Yushra Sakiron, 29, a resident of General Santos City. The latter was driving a sports utility vehicle when arrested.

He said cigarettes were seized by personnel of the Zamboanga City Police Office’s (ZCPO) Station 1 when Sakiron, who was flagged down at a checkpoint, failed to present any document of his cargo.

He said investigation showed the smuggled cigarettes, consisting of 456 reams of assorted brands with P75,000, came from Zamboanga City and en route to Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay.

He said that Sakiron, the confiscated smuggled cigarettes and the vehicle were placed under the custody of ZCPO’s Station and will be turned over to the Bureau of Customs for proper disposition. (SunStar Zamboanga)
