Baconaje faces Quan in Vietnam

ARNEL Baconaje is set to face International Boxing Federation (IBF) Asia lightweight champion Dinh Hong Quan on Dec. 10, 2022, at The Grand Ho Tram Strip in Vung Tau, Vietnam.

The 29-year-old Baconaje is looking to log his first win on international soil and his first regional title.

Baconaje hasn’t had much success fighting internationally, losing in Japan, China and Russia.

Baconaje is coming off a unanimous decision win over journeyman Leonardo Doronio last March 12 in Parañaque City.

He owns wins over the likes of Tomjune Mangubat and Brian Lobetania.

In the meantime, Quan is currently on a hot streak, winning seven straight fights. The 24-year-old Vietnamese prospect won the vacant IBF Asia belt last April 23 with a unanimous decision over Pinoy warrior Delmar Pellio. He successfully defended his belt by beating another Filipino, Jules Victoriano, also by unanimous decision.

Baconaje is 15-5 with 11 knockouts, while Quan is 9-1-1 with four knockouts.

Also slated to see action in the same show is former Olympian Charly Suarez.

Suarez’s opponent is yet to be determined.

Suarez is coming off a successful title defense of his World Boxing Association Asia and Philippine GAB super featherweight belts with a unanimous decision win over Carlo Magali last Oct. 23 in Parañaque City.

Suarez, who competed in the 2016 Olympics, is 13-0 with seven knockouts.
