DAVAO City could expect a ‘generally peaceful’ observance of Undas until November 4, according to representatives of the security cluster on Tuesday, November 1.

As of November 1, observance of Undas has been generally peaceful without reported untoward incidents and violators, except for a few confiscated items brought to cemeteries.

Davao City Police Office (DCPO) spokesperson PMaj. Catherine Dela Rey told SunStar Davao that the confiscated items were three jungle bolo or sundang and four grass cutters.

Task Force Davao Commander Col. Darren Comia also said the city did not receive any direct threats from local terrorist groups.

“As of today, generally peaceful and normal ang situation natin sa iba’t-ibang sementeryo dito sa Davao City (the situations in various cemeteries are generally peaceful). Wala tayo na-receive na direct threat galing sa local terrorists groups. Ang kagandahan niyan, padayon lang ang mga Dabawenyps sa pag bisita sa mga sementeryo (We did not receive any direct threats from local terrorist groups so Dabawenyos are safe and they can continue visiting cemeteries),” Comia said.

Region-wide, Police Regional Office (PRO-Davao) director PBGen. Benjamin Silo Jr. said security measures are in place in all 173 cemeteries in the region which are composed of 135 private cemeteries and 38 public cemeteries.

“We covered ang security ng lahat ng sementeryo (We covered the security of all the cemeteries in the region). May public assistance desk tayo, makikita niyo kasama natin ang service ng local government unit, may ambulance sila, at kasama natin ang Bureau of Fire (We have a public assistance desk, a service unit from the LGU, ambulance, and the Bureau of Fire),” Silo said during an interview with the media.

Dela Rey said they are expecting a smooth observance of Undas until November 2 but Silo said personnel from the PRO-Davao will monitor cemeteries and other establishments until Friday, November 4.

Visitors are reminded to make sure they are not bringing prohibited items into the cemeteries including sharp and pointed objects, alcoholic drinks, and jackets and backpacks. ICM
