TASK Force Davao (TF-Davao) intensifies all border control checkpoints in Davao City to apprehend individuals trying to sneak in illegal contraband to the city.

In 2021, TF Davao established border control points in Barangay Eden and Malagos for those individuals and motorists avoiding the main fixed checkpoints of the city, particularly in the highway boundaries.

With the existing border checkpoints, TF Davao and Davao City Police Office (DCPO) seized P2.1 million worth of smuggled Bros Menthol cigarettes on October 31, 2022, in Barangay Eden.

TF Davao said a total of 4,250 reams of the cigarette were carried by a white Hyundai Van and driven by a 36-year-old man along with his 24-year-old helper, both from Km 11, Sasa, Davao City.

The suspects will be facing charges for violation of Republic Act (RA) No. 4712 or an Act amending Certain sections of the Tariff and Customs Code of The Philippines.

According to RA No. 4712, any person who violates the provision or regulations will be fined not more than P1,000 or by imprisonment for not more than one year, or both.

TF Davao said the latest interception is due to the efforts of the security clusters of the city.

“This apprehension reflects the relentless efforts of the security clusters of Davao City to prevent any form of illegal contraband that is harmful to the economy of the City,” TF Davao said.

Meanwhile, the confiscated smuggled cigarettes and suspects are currently in the custody of the Eden Police Station. KSD
