Davao City's Covid-19 cases decreasing - health official

THE number of Covid-19 cases in Davao City remains stable despite increases in other provinces in the region, said Davao City Covid-19 Task Force spokesperson Dr. Michelle Schlosser on Wednesday, November 2.

Based on the Covid-19 tracker of the Department of Health, the province of Davao del Sur has the highest number of new cases in the last 14 days with 846 cases as of November 1.

The province is also in Octa Research’s list of areas with the highest positivity rate, recording 14.2 percent on October 22 and 12.9 percent as of October 29. This makes Davao del Sur the only (moderate-risk) province in Davao Region in Octa Research’s study.

“In Davao City, we are able to lower our cases. In fact, the number of deaths is decreasing compared to previous weeks. As of the moment, ang atoang cases sa Covid-19, it’s not as kadaghan as before (our Covid-19 cases are fewer unlike before),” Schlosser said during an interview with the Davao City Disaster Radio.

As of November 1, Davao City only has 41 new cases in the past 14 days based on the DOH Covid-19 Tracker, with an additional 31 new cases as of Tuesday, according to Schlosser.

Schlosser said Davao City usually logs 500 to 600 cases per week but this has drastically declined during the week of October 23 to 29 with only 381 consolidated cases.

Behind Davao del Sur, the provinces of Davao del Norte and Davao Oriental still have more new cases compared to Davao City. In the past 14 days, Davao del Norte recorded 131 new cases while Davao Oriental recorded 75 cases.

Davao Occidental has the least number of new Covid-19 cases during the same period, with only 14 cases.

However, a spike in cases may be anticipated given that the country has recently concluded the observance of Undas wherein many people flocked to cemeteries and other public places.

“After Undas, we will wait again for another two weeks to know if cases would either fluctuate or spike,” Schlosser said.

Meanwhile, four barangays in Davao City are classified as high-risk of Covid-19 based on the latest barangay risk classification from October 31 to November 5, 2022.

These are Barangays 16-B, 34-D, 35-D, and Bag Oshiro. Fourteen barangays are also classified as moderate risk namely 7-A, 9-A, 12-B, 13-B, 19-B, 20-B, 30-C, 32-D, 40-D, Buhangin Proper, Gov. Paciano Bangoy, Matina Biao, Matina Crossing, and Mintal.

Among the four high-risk barangays, Barangay 35-D has the highest average daily attack rate of (Adar) 42.52 wherein four cases were recorded in the past two weeks out of a population of 672 people.

It is followed by Barangay Bago Oshiro with a 37.09 adar, Barangay 16-B with 29.27 adar, and Barangay 34-D with 18.27 adar. ICM
