THE cases of cholera in Negros Occidental climbed to 24 with two deaths as of yesterday, November 4, a report from the Provincial Health Office showed.

It is 8.33 percent higher than the record last year where there were only 22 Negrenses falling ill to the water-borne disease with no recorded casualties.

Talisay City has the highest number of cases at 10 followed by Silay City and E.B. Magalona town, each with six cases.

The northern Negros Occidental city of Victorias and Calatrava town each have one cholera case, the PHO reported.

With this, Provincial Administrator Reyfrando Diaz II said that it is necessary to push through with the health summit on November 25 to discuss this matter and other diseases prevailing in the province.

So far, three barangays in E.B. Magalona and another in Silay City have declared cholera outbreaks.

Several water refilling stations in E.B Magalona and also in Bacolod City were forced to shut down as they failed to secure sanitation permits.
