K-POP music ruled the airwaves, K-dramas dominated the tube, K-stars top brand endorsers and are on the front row of runways. With restrictions easing up, foodies have a reason to K-pop their appetite. Where? The newest Korean-inspired dining at the Rogen Inn compound -- Samgyupsalamat.
There’s every reason to be thankful for this restaurant to open at the Rogen Inn compound in the city center of Davao.
One. It’s an (m)eat-all-you-can! Beef cuts, pork, and even chicken, in its different preparations, from the famed Korean beef Bulgogi, that “fire meat” that can fire up your appetite; the Beef Samgyup that can make you drool with its “three layer flesh”; or the “honeycomb” pork belly, Yangnyum Buljib that can sweeten your barbecue party. There are a dozen meats you can choose from — or choose all — again and again. It’s a feast as much as your tummy can take!
Two. Meat is not the only thing you can enjoy, the side dishes are refillable as well. The soup, kimchi, baby potatoes, lettuce, japchae (glass noodles), gochujang chicken meatballs, gyeranjjim (steamed eggs). These make for an ideal pairing for the meats!
Three. The belly buster BBQ blowout is only P549.00! Imagine that? That’s the cost of one or two viands when dining out elsewhere. You don’t have to be a math wizard to know you are getting the best deal. You can play Captain Yoo Shi Jin to your date and win her heart by impressing her with a hearty meal here — without breaking the bank.
Four. Service is fast. The Samgyupsalamat team doesn’t want to break your grill-to-plate-to-mouth rhythm, especially if you’re famished, so is your date. Samgyupsalamat doesn’t want anyone to go “hangry.” Say salamat, please.
Five. The location. Samgyupsalamat is ensconced in the heart of the city at the Rogen Inn Compound, Mt. Apo corner Lopez Jaena Streets. Whether you’re coming from the North or South of the city, you can access the place easily via several routes. What’s sweet is that Rogen Inn has ample parking space.
Six. There’s Melona. You may shell out extra moolah for this ice cream treat, but it completes your Korean dining novela sweetly like a happy-ever-after K-drama finale. Plus, it freshens your tongue, a palette cleanser. The downside is it might just make you go for another bout on the grill. No one’s stopping you. It’s eat-all-you-can with no time limit! Just make sure you have a clean plate before you stand, otherwise, Younghee might turn her head, go ballistic and penalize you by paying full price for leftovers.
Well, you can’t go to Korea (yet), so Samgyupsalamat is bringing Korea to you. There’s a lot to be thankful for. Now, say Son-Kha-Rakh Ha-Teu and flash that Korean finger heart. Those who came on the soft opening night did. You should, too.
