PSA: Davao Region tops Covid-19 deaths in Mindanao from Jan. to July 2022

THE Davao Region is the top region in Mindanao with the most deaths caused by Covid-19 from January to July this year, based on the latest report of the Philippine Statistics Authority.

The region tallies 587 deaths during that period, making it the sixth nationwide but the top among regions in Mindanao.

Northern Mindanao followed it with 483 deaths, Soccsksargen with 328, Zamboanga Peninsula with 268, Caraga with 252, and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao with only 32 deaths.

The top three are the National Capital Region with 2,986 deaths, Calabarzon with 1,856, and Central Luzon with 1,573. In terms of cities, Quezon city has the highest number of deaths with 623.

But based on the Covid-19 Tracker of the Department of Health as of November 5, the region has recorded 3,922 total deaths since the start of the pandemic, the majority coming from Davao City, Davao del Norte, and Davao de Oro respectively.

Meanwhile, the PSA also reports that the leading causes of death in the country are ischaemic heart diseases, cerebrovascular diseases, and neoplasms or cancer.

Ischaemic heart diseases made up 18.6 percent of the total deaths from January to July this year, while cerebrovascular diseases and cancer made up 10.4 and 10.1 percent respectively.

“Incidentally, these were also the leading causes of death in the same period in 2021,” the PSA said in a statement. ICM
