THE Davao City Covid-19 Task Force said that minors are still vulnerable to deaths caused by Covid-19, especially without vaccination.

Covid-19 Task Force Spokesperson Dr. Michelle Schlosser said that minors and young children are vulnerable to severe Covid-19 despite being perceived as having strong immune systems.

Based on the recent consolidated data of Covid-19 deaths in Davao City from January 1 to November 5 this year, 23 are minors and young adults between the age of zero to 19 years old.

Fourteen belong to the population group zero to nine years old, while nine are between ten to 19 years old.

“Karon na datos, nagapakita na even the young ones, even those that are expected na maayo ang immune system, pwede gihapon nila ikamatay ang Covid-19 labi na kining mga bata ni wala’y bakuna (The data shows that even the young ones who are expected to have strong immune systems, can also die of Covid-19 especially if they are not vaccinated),” Schlosser said during a radio interview on November 4.

The most recent deaths were recorded from October 23 to 29 which included two pediatric deaths, one each aged between five to 11 years old and 12 to 17 years old. Schlosser both were unvaccinated.

Overall, Davao City has tallied 380 deaths for this year, most of which are above the age of 60 years old, specifically 99 deaths between 60 to 69 years old. It is followed by the population group 70 to 79 years old with 65 deaths, and 63 deaths from the age group 50 to 59 years old.

There are also 42 deaths among individuals above the age of 80 and 35 deaths for 40 to 49 years old. While for the younger population, 53 deaths were recorded between the age of 20 to 39. ICM
