OPERATIVES of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) have arrested a government employee for malversation of public funds in a law enforcement in Zamboanga City, the police reported Tuesday, November 8, 2022.

Police Colonel John Francis Encinareal, CIDG regional director, identified the arrested government employee as Araceli Saavedra, 57, a resident of San Jose Cawa-Cawa village.

Encinareal said that Saavedra was arrested in a law enforcement operation by way of service of warrant of arrest around 7:20 p.m. Monday, November 7, along Mayor Jaldon Street in Canelar village.

Encinareal said that Saavedra has pending warrant of arrest for the crime of malversation of public funds with P60,000 recommended bail dated October 28, 2022 issued by the court of this city.

He said the accused was a former collection officer of the Overseas Workers’ Welfare Administration in this city and was involved in anomalous transactions.

He said the accused received public funds and failed to account the said funds upon demand without offering a justifiable explanation during the audit conducted by Commission on Audit that led to the filing of case against her.

He said she was brought to the CIDG-Zamboanga City Field Unit for documentation and proper disposition. (SunStar Zamboanga)
