TASK Force Davao (TFD) plans to add more personnel at the security points around the city to ensure the safety of travelers following the bus bombing in Tacurong City, said TFD Commander Col. Darren Comia on November 8.

Comia said the additional troops will be one of the major adjustments in the current security plan of Davao City. The troops will be deployed at various points to monitor security, including border control points where suspected terrorists can loiter or enter the city.

“Nagdadag tayo ng tropa para sa ganoon mabigyan ng kaukulan na pansin ng TFD ang mga hindi inaasahang pangyayari (We added more troops so TFD can give proper attention to monitor unexpected incidents),” Comia said during an interview on the Davao City Disaster Radio.

The bus bombing in Tacurong City, Sultan Kudarat province on November 6 left one dead and 11 others injured which prompted the local security cluster to assess and tighten security.

After the incident, the TFD will double its existing security measures in terms of visibility and monitoring bus boarding operations. Motorcycle patrols and foot patrols will also be implemented in crowded areas in Metro Davao.

“Marami ang sumasakay ngayon sa bus papasok ng Davao City. Para ng sa ganoon ma-check na agad kahit along the way pa or papasok pa lang, checked na ng mga kasamahan natin sa TFD (Many people are baording the bus to Davao City. Thus, we have to double the effort in monitoring bus boarding to operations) ,” Comia said.

In the future, Comia mentioned that Davao City’s security will have an established foundation once the proposed “An Ordinance Institutionalizing the Enhanced Safety and Security Measures in Specified Areas and During Big Events in Davao City” is approved.

He said the proposed ordinance will help strengthen and give meaning to the current security measures around the city.

Once implemented, security will be deployed at various points of entry via land, air, and sea, and in public areas where crowds usually converge including City Hall, Sangguniang Panlungsod, Hall of Justice, People’s Park, Magsaysay Park, San Pedro Square and Roxas Avenue.

It will also buff security policies including more personnel, mobile patrol units, and maintaining CCTVs by the government and private establishments.

The proposed ordinance passed the third and final reading at the city council last October 18.

“Ito yung mga bagay na magiging ngipin ng TFD, magkakaroon ng laman ang ating ginagawang pag check sa border and security check points natin (The ordinance will give teeth to TFD’s operations. We would have a foundation to our current practice of checking borders and security points),” Comia said. ICM
