UP TO 400 visitors are expected to tour Cebu Province following the return of Suroy-Suroy Sugbo, which was suspended due to the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) pandemic in 2020.
Governor Gwendolyn Garcia said the Provincial Government’s tourism program will be held on November 18 to 20, 2022, and will be dubbed the Southern Heritage Trail.
Garcia said this is a sign that Cebu’s tourism industry is well on its way to recovery amid the easing of pandemic-related restrictions.
“It will be the first Suroy-Suroy after 2020 in January. That was right before the pandemic. We had our Northern Escapade after ana nawala na gyud (that we had to temporarily stop the program). Mao na nga (That’s why) this is the first Suroy-Suroy. Daghan kaayong (Many are) excited to join. This will be to the south,” she said on Wednesday, November 9.
The upcoming Suroy-Suroy is called the Southern Heritage Trail because participants will visit various places that are connected to the culture and history of Cebuanos. It will cover all towns and cities in the first, second and seventh districts.
The trail will start with stops in Minglanilla, San Fernando, Sibonga, Argao, Dalaguete, Alcoy and Boljoon on the first day.
On the second day, participants will visit beaches in the towns of Oslob, Santander, Samboan, Ginatilan, Malabuyoc, Alegria, Badian and Moalboal.
On the third day, they will proceed to the towns of Alcantara, Ronda, Dumanjug, Barili and the cities of Carcar and Naga before heading to the final destination of Talisay City for dinner and a show presentation.
Meanwhile, the governor reiterated that fully vaccinated visitors bound for Cebu Province no longer need to undergo the Covid-19 test after she lifted the requirement effective Saturday, November 5.
However, al unvaccinated travelers are urged to undergo the Rapid Antigen Test within 24 hours before traveling to the island. Those who are unable to do so can be tested for free upon their arrival at the Mactan-Cebu International Airport. (ANV, PJB)
