MAEWESS Ferry Boat (Maewess) has increased its fare for trips between the Island Garden City of Samal (Igacos) and Davao City due to an increase in the prices of raw materials, maintenance costs, and fuel.
Maritime Industry Authority Davao Region (Marina-Davao) said the new fare for motorcycles is now P100 from P70; tricycles at P200 from P180; and walk-in passengers will now pay P15 from P10. This will take effect on November 15, 2022.
Atty. Genevieve Calsada, Supervising Maritime Development Specialist of Marina, said in an interview with Super Radyo Davao on November 9, 2022 that Maewess requested their office for the fare hike last October 2022.
Calsada said the new fare was approved because no one objected to the proposed increase. KSD
