THE Church, police and officials of the Cebu City Government have started preparing for the religious activities lined up for the 2023 Sinulog Festival.

The officials conducted Thursday, November 10, 2022, a “walkthrough” in areas where the religious activities will be held to ensure the safety of the devotees.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Wilbert Parilla, outgoing deputy city director for administration of the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO), said a security plan has been in place.

He said the walkthrough Thursday will help them identify the possible challenges that may be encountered during the celebration in January next year.

“That is a simulation. Makita nato og asa dapita ang dunay depekto based sa atong gi set nga security detail. Atong makita kung unsay mga expected nga problema nga masugatan nato during sa the day,” Parilla said.

The Sinulog celebration in 2023 will be back to normal, said Parilla, stressing that activities such as the Walk with Mary, Walk with Jesus, Traslacion and Solemn Procession will be held again after they were stopped due to the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) pandemic.

With this, Parilla said all personnel of the CCPO will be deployed along with an augmentation team from the Police Regional Office-Central Visayas, Armed Forces of the Philippines, and other force multipliers.

The CCPO will present to the PRO-Central Visayas next week the security plan for the Sinulog 2023 to further improve it. (AYB/LMY)
