MARITIME Industry Authority-Davao Region (Marina-Davao) said Maewess Ferry Boat and CW Cole Incorporated have undergone the necessary processes before their requested fare hike was approved.

“Regulated po kasi ‘yong ating singil (The fare is regulated). So, pag naka-notify sila sa office, then they complied with 10 days and posted the same notice sa ticketing office to inform the public (The fare is regulated. So, the time that they will notify our office and comply with all the requirements, then it will be approved),” Atty. Genevieve Calsada, Supervising Maritime Development Specialist of Marina, said during an interview with SunStar Davao on November 10, 2022.

Calsada said they did not receive substantial opposition to the fare increase.

“When they filed their request last October 24, 2022, meron lang tayo certain periods na mag-entertain ng opposition (we have a certain period when we can entertain sentiments from those opposing [the fare hike]), it should be substantial opposition,” she said.

According to Marina, the approved fare for motorcycles is now P100 from P70; tricycles at P200 from P180; and walk-in passengers will now pay P15 from P10. Maewess Ferry Boat and CW Cole Incorporated will be implementing the same fare. The new fare will take effect on November 15, 2022.

Calsada said the two ferries requested fare increases twice already. The first request was in July 2022 for heavy-type vehicles, which was also approved. The second is this recent request for light vehicles. KSD
