Oro mayor to implement policies on sidewalk vendors at Cogon

CAGAYAN de Oro City Mayor Rolando "Klarex" Uy is set to implement a set of policies and regulations to ensure the orderliness and prevent traffic congestion in Cogon market.

Earlier this week, the city mayor attended a coordination meeting with City Councilors Yan Lam Lim and John Michael Seno, and officials from the Roads and Traffic Administration (RTA), City Economic Enterprises Department (CEED), Police Station 2, City Legal Office, City Engineer's Office, City Local Environment and Natural Resources Office (CLENRO), City Social Welfare and Development Department (CSWD), City Administrator's Office, and barangay chairmen from Barangays 28, 32, 33, 34, 38 and 39 to discuss measures to address the issue on sidewalk vendors around Cogon market.

Among the policies and regulations to be implemented include prohibiting sidewalk vendors from selling on JR Borja, Captain Vicente Roa and Yacapin streets to prevent traffic congestion in the said areas and only allowing sidewalk vendors to sell their products from 6 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Sidewalk vendors must also clean and collect their garbage, requiring them to have their own container, such as sacks, for trash.

Vendors who violate the above mentioned policies and regulations will be fined and issued with Ordinance Violation Receipt.

The coordination meeting was held following the surprise inspection last Saturday, November 5, by Uy where he personally witnessed sidewalk vendors almost occupying the entire stretch of the JR Borja road, thus causing traffic jams.
