IN PREPARATION for upcoming calamities, emergencies and disasters, the Municipal Government of Minglanilla in southern Cebu has equipped 26 public schools with two-way radios.
Mayor Rajiv Enad led the distribution through the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) on Friday, Nov. 11, 2022.
Enad said it was only appropriate to provide two-way radios to schools, especially with the return of face-to-face classes, following the devastation wrought by typhoon Odette in December 2021.
“Kung naay mga problema, calamity or disasters sama sa bagyo, with or without cellphone signal maka-contact mo sa LGU (local government unit) ug dali mo maatiman labi na nga mga bata vulnerable kaayo. Nakat-on gyud ta pag-Odette,” he said.
(If there are problems like a calamity or disasters such as a typhoon, the schools can contact the LGU, with or without a cellphone signal, and the students, especially the children who are vulnerable, can be taken care of. We learned our lesson during Odette.)
Minglanilla was one of the localities that was hit by typhoon Odette (Rai), causing the evacuation of some families and the destruction of some livelihoods and homes. (ANV / PJB)
