PUBLIC schools in each district of Davao City will hold a regular school-based vaccination every day, according to the vaccination cluster.

This is to increase the number of vaccinated minors belonging to the pediatric population since coverage remains low, said Davao City Covid-19 Task Force spokesperson Dr. Michelle Schlosser on November 11.

“Gamay lang ang nagpabakuna, labi na sa 5 to 11 years old (Only a few students from the 5 to 11 years old group are vaccinated). Atong 12 to 17 years old, daghan naman hinoon pero they are eligible for booster doses na so we wanted kung pila an ang fully vaccinated dapat mao to ang fully-boosted sad nato (The 12 to 17 years old group have better coverage but they lack booster doses so that is what we are working on),” Schlosser said.

Dr. Josephine Villafuerte, head of the Davao City Covid-19 Vaccination Program said their team has coordinated with the regional Department of Education for the vaccination program.

The schools are in charge of coordinating with the vaccination cluster and they would gather students and their parents for the scheduled vaccination.

“Mag schedule lang ang school sa vaccination team, sa Friday muadto na among team sa eskwelahan (The schools can set a schedule with our office and our vaccination team would come to their school on Friday),” Villafuerte said on November 8.

Private schools, on the other hand, can also coordinate with the vaccination cluster to schedule the school-based vaccination on their campuses.

Schlosser and Villafuerte emphasized that the students may only be vaccinated if it is consented to by the parents. The students are also required to be accompanied by parents or guardians on the day of the vaccination.

Meanwhile, Schlosser said the weekend vaccination at People’s Park Davao will remain open every Saturday and Sunday, 8:00 am to 3:00 pm until December. It is open to all population groups for all doses and even missed doses.

As of November 7, the overall vaccination coverage of Davao Region is at 87.7 percent or 3,329,595 fully vaccinated individuals but the coverage rate for the first and second booster doses is still lower than desired, which is at 17.3 percent and 3.2 percent respectively. ICM
