COUNCILMAN Paul Anieve of Barangay Mandalagan in Bacolod City will occupy the seat left by the late village chief Arturo Parreño, an official of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) said Monday, November 14, 2022.

Ma. Joy Marideth Madayag, head of DILG-Bacolod, said Anieve was elected as the number one kagawad so he will take over the post of Parreño.

She said the village council will also pass a resolution to occupy the seat of Anieve as village councilman, adding that the lists will be submitted to the City Mayor’s Office for the approval

Parreño passed away on November 6, 2022 at the age of 78.

The Bacolod City earlier passed a resolution expressing the deepest and most profound sympathy and condolences to the bereaved family of Parreño, an incumbent village chief of Barangay Mandalagan and former Liga ng mga Barangay president.

The resolution, authored by Councilors Gles Pallen and Em Ang, stated that the passing of Parreño, is a great loss not only to his immediate family and loved ones, but to everyone who came to know him, as he was not only a devoted and living husband and father, but also a dedicated, benevolent and caring leader to his constituents.

Parreño was elected as city councilor from 1988 to 1998, elected barangay captain and president of Association of Barangay Captains (ABC) from 2002 to 2007, and again elected as the village chief in 2013 and 2018 elections.

As a lifelong public servant, Parreño was champion for community development, opportunity and progress, as he was steadfast in meeting the needs of his constituents, and his leadership has greatly contributed to the influx of investors in Barangay Mandalagan, the resolution further stated.
