PAUL Anieve, the number one councilman of Barangay Mandalagan in Bacolod City, took his oath of office before Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez as the new village chief at the Bacolod Government Center yesterday, November 16.

Benitez, in a statement, said Anieve will officially serve as the new village chief of Barangay Mandalagan in lieu of the late Captain Arturo Parreño.

Parreño passed away on November 6, 2022 at the age of 78.

Ma. Joy Marideth Madayag, head of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), earlier said Anieve was elected as the number one kagawad so he will take over the post of Parreño.

She said the village council will also pass a resolution to look for someone to occupy the seat of Anieve as village councilman, adding that the lists will be submitted to the City Mayor’s Office for approval.

The Bacolod City Council earlier passed a resolution “expressing the deepest and most profound sympathy and condolences” to the bereaved family of Parreño, an incumbent village chief of Barangay Mandalagan and former Liga ng mga Barangay president.

Parreño was elected as city councilor from 1988 to 1998, elected barangay captain and president of Association of Barangay Captains (ABC) from 2002 to 2007, and again elected as the village chief in 2013 and 2018 elections.*
