Most wanted from Siquijor nabbed for rape; Bohol barangay councilor arrested for drugs

ONE of the most wanted persons in the national level with a P130,000 reward for information leading to his arrest was captured in an operation jointly arranged by Zamboanga del Norte Police Provincial Office and Siquijor Police Provincial Office (SPPO) on Wednesday, November 17, 2022.

The suspect identified as Jaide Padayhag Sumalpong, Sr., 66, a widower and farmer from Barangay Sabang, Larena, Siquijor, is facing two counts of rape.

Judge Alejandro Bahonsua Jr. of Regional Trial Court branch 4 Larena issued the warrant dated December 26, 2011 for the suspect’s arrest with no bail recommended.

Police Colonel Robert Lingbawan, chief of SPPO, said Sumalpong went into hiding at the house of his relatives in Barangay Tolon, Rizal town, Zamboanga del Norte, after the incident more than 10 years ago.

The Police Regional Office 7 (PRO 7) Intelligence Unit coordinated with the Rizal Municipal Police Station (RMPS) after receiving information about the suspect’s location.

The operatives of RMPS were then dispatched to the area to serve the warrant against Sumalpong.

Sumalpong was brought to Siquijor to face the charges against him.

Meanwhile, a barangay councilor of Madua Norte, Duero town, Bohol was arrested in a buy-bust operation on the same day, Wednesday.

A pack of alleged shabu worth P5,440 and buy-bust money were confiscated from the suspect, Leandro Roy Bernil Peligro, 40, of Purok 3, Madua Norte. (AYB, TPT)
