“IT'S not yet established.”

This was the reply of Cadiz police chief Lieutenant Colonel Gil John Despi when asked about the motive behind the shooting of a farmer at the city’s Barangay Celestino Villacin around 10 a.m. Saturday, November 19, 2022.

Despi said the suspect or suspects who shot and killed Diosdado Fuentes, 65, of Purok Pilar in the city’s Barangay Colonia Divina are still unidentified as of Sunday, November 20.

Investigation showed that the victim was tilling his farm in Sitio Tambabo when he was killed.

The victim’s family said that he had not received death threats prior to his killing nor had known enemies.

“We are communicating with several individuals there (at the area where the victim was killed) who could possibly shed light on the incident,” Despi told SunStar Bacolod.

An empty shell of a .45 caliber pistol was recovered from the crime scene, which is about two hours away from the city proper, he added.

Fuentes succumbed to gunshot wounds on his shoulders, throat and left leg at the Sagay City District Hospital.
