The Zonta Club of Cebu 2 will commemorate, as they do annually, the “18 Days of Activism” to stop gender-based violence. The Club has initiated several activities from Nov. 25 to Dec. 12.

Two of the extremely relevant and exciting competitions are its photography competition with the theme, “To Raise Awareness and Address: Violence against Women and Girls” (deadline Nov. 27), and the poetry competition with the theme, “Violence against Women: It Stops with Me” (deadline Nov. 25). This event is sponsored by the Mandaue City Government and the Zonta Club of Cebu 2 to mark the “18 Days of Activism” to stop gender-based violence.

Photography competition guidelines

Contestants must agree and comply with the official rules. They must also be aware of the model’s consent form or a waiver that the subject in the photo allows herself to be in it.

Photos submitted here will be owned by the Zonta Club of Cebu 2 and contestants shall allow the use of these photos to any and all collaterals, advertisements, promotional materials that the Club may use it for. The Club, however, reserves the copyright to the photographer.

The Club will only accept entries submitted through the online entry form. Entries submitted through other means shall not be accepted and automatically disqualified.

Prizes per category are as follows:

Professional category: Grand Champion - P30,000; First Runner-up - P20,000; Second Runner-up - P10,000; and Consolation Prize - P5,000.

Mobile category: Grand Champion - P10,000; First Runner-up - P7,000; and Second Runner-up - P5,000.

Special awards: Early Bird (first five) - P1,000 each; People’s Choice - P3,000.

Photos will be pre-selected by the executive committee based on the theme. From the top 25 photos, the board of judges will choose their top five on Nov 28. The People’s Choice Award will be based on the entry’s number of reactions in the Zonta Club of Cebu 2 Facebook page from Nov. 27 to Dec. 11 at exactly 12 midnight. Results of the competition are final and non-appealable.

Poetry competition guidelines

Poetry-writing categories: Category A - Participants who are aged 20 and below; Category B - Participants who are aged 21 years up to 50; Category C - Participants who are aged 51 years old and above. Each participant can submit up to two poems only. Each entry must have a minimum of three stanzas and maximum of eight. The poem can be written using the following languages exclusively or in combination, to wit: English/Tagalog (Filipino) / Bisaya. The entries must be encoded using font type Arial, size 14, and shall not mention the name of the author on the face of the poem.

lt must be saved on PDF format with the filename: POEM TITLE_SURNAME(1) or POEM TITLE_SURNAME (2) and shall be submitted on or before Nov. 25 at 5 p.m.

The author should avoid unnecessary or excessive use of profanity and obscenity. Use of these words can lead to disqualification. Judging of entries will be done anonymously and the author’s name will not appear in any of the entries submitted to the judges.

The copyright of each poem remains with the author. However, the poems submitted (whether winner or not) will be owned by Zonta Club of Cebu 2 who retains the right to publish these in any article or site allowed by the organization. Zonta Club of Cebu 2, however, may monetize (by selling or distributing for profit) the poems, which may result in 10 percent royalties in favor of the author from the net revenues insofar as the use of the poem. The following are the prizes across the three categories: 1st Place - P5,000 (A), P15,000 (B), P15,000 (C); 2nd Place- P3,000 (A), P8,000 (B), 8,000 (C); 3rd Place - P2,000 (A), P5,000 (B), P5,000 (C).
