VIETNAM will organize Thursday, November 24, 2022, a business and investment forum in the Philippines that is aimed at opening new opportunities for Vietnamese businessmen who want to invest in the country, Vietnam’s National Assembly chairman told President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. during a meeting in Malacañang on Wednesday, November 23, 2022.
Vuong said business executives and leaders from Vietnam are expected to participate in the forum.
“And I hope that will lay the groundwork for further strengthening trade and investment ties bilaterally. I suggest that we can work bilaterally and also multilaterally to address the challenges facing our region,” he said.
During the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) Summit in Cambodia two weeks ago, Vietnam and the Philippines agreed to work together on the issue on the South China Sea, the situation in Myanmar, supply chain disruptions, high inflation, impacts of climate change and the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
Vuong said their country can also collaborate with the Philippines in terms of digital transformation, cybersecurity, defense and security, education and training, science and technology, tourism and as well as people-to-people exchange.
“And also believe that apart from rice trade, we can expand our current relations to the import and export of construction materials, particularly cement,” he said.
In response, Marcos told Vuong that previous business and commercial tie-ups between Vietnamese and Filipino investors developed and strengthened relationships between the two countries.
“So, it looks like those of us in government will have to catch up to the business community and strengthen and make the -- find new ways to coordinate, to help one another, especially as we come out of this pandemic economy and with the problems that we are feeling because of the conflict in Ukraine,” the President said.
Marcos said he will visit Vietnam following the invitation of Vietnam President Nguyen Xuan Phuc. (SunStar Philippines)
