Letigio: Cebu lifestyle is back

The past few weeks have been exhausting for me socially because of the numerous activities that have been going on all around Cebu.

I may have forgotten how active Cebu’s lifestyle can be due to two years of pandemic-induced movement restrictions, but there’s no denying now that Cebu is alive again.

Concerts, events, festivals, expos, and many others have been making either a comeback or a debut in the past months, indicating that the island has kicked the pandemic to the past.

As a geek, I have enjoyed massively the recent Otakufest at the J Centre Mall in Mandaue City and the Bai-con that was held much earlier at the IC3 Convention Center in Cebu City.

As a music lover, the Aurora Fest at the South Road Properties was well worth the traffic for the large part of southern Metro Cebu because beautiful music resonated throughout the reclamation area.

And who could forget the Boys Like Girls concert at SM Seaside last October? Until now, I keep on blasting the band’s song, “Love Drunk,” on Spotify just to remember that one solid night of nostalgia.

What is even more exciting is that this December, the very first K-pop acts will be coming to Cebu, a historic moment for the metropolis.

I am ecstatic as of all the K-pop artists who could potentially perform in Cebu, it’s my beloved EXO through Xiumin and Chen who will be performing along with TVXQ!’s U-Know Yunho and Max Changmin, and the queen of K-pop herself, BoA.

They will be performing for the Tribute to the Elderly, Be You 2: The World Will Care event this Dec. 8 at the Mactan Newtown in Lapu-Lapu City. The concert aims to bring awareness for senior citizens’ rights, welfare and health.

Such an advocacy-driven event with a powerhouse of performers from South Korea and the Philippines only proves the viability of Cebu to become a destination for lifestyle events.

I cannot wait for even more concerts to come, especially from Neuwave Events and Production which has seen a lot of potential in Cebu as a market for events.

Cebu has gone far from the strong clutch of the pandemic and is waking up from two years of slumber.

There’s so much to look forward to including the Sinulog 2023, which I expect will bring in so many lifestyle events from every corner of the province and its islands.

I can vaguely remember now what makes Cebu a unique metropolis in the country before the pandemic.

It’s an all-out metro in the heart of a beautiful landscape of mountains and beaches, the perfect recipe for a lifestyle hub.

There’s so much to look forward to in Cebu and it’s all worth the wait.
