2 soldiers killed in ambush by alleged rebels in Sipalay City

“GODLESS.”

That was how 302nd Infantry Brigade Commander Brigadier General Leonardo Peña described the members of the Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) who allegedly ambushed and killed two military soldiers at Barangay Camindangan in Sipalay City, Negros Occidental past 10 a.m. yesterday, November 24.

Peña identified the victims as Sergeant Regie Glindro and Staff Sergeant Ken Camilan, who are both intelligence operatives of the 94th Infantry Battalion based in Barangay Camindangan.

He said the two were on their way to the barangay proper to conduct a local peace engagement coordination when at least four CTGs blocked their way as they approached the area of Sitio Camboguiot.

“They were on their civilian clothes and were only riding a motorcycle since their task is non-intelligence-related,” Peña noted.

The CTG members riddled the soldiers’ bodies with bullets, the military official said.

“The way they killed the soldiers only showed how bad these CTGs are, so rest assured that we will not leave this not acted,” he added.

Peña vowed that they will avenge the soldiers and run after the CTG so they could give justice to the slain soldiers.

The death of Camilan and Glindro came four days after an alleged high-ranking CTG official, Victor Baldonado, died in a gunbattle with the military at the hinterlands of Barangay Trinidad in Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental.*
