MOST cases of Covid-19 in the education sector are medical or medical-allied students, said the spokesperson of Davao City Covid-19 Task Force Dr. Michelle Schlosser on November 23.

“It is expected because they are exposed at these hospitals where there are clusters of cases. Mas daghan man gyod ta cases sa hospitals,” Schlosser said in an interview with the Davao City Disaster Radio.

Schlosser said schools and universities continue to require their medical and medical-allied students to submit a health declaration and RT-PCR test to monitor the Covid-19 status of their

student population.

She added that cases of students confirmed Covid-19 positive are at higher education levels rather than at secondary and elementary levels.

“A lot of our cases in our basic education sector are employees,” Schlosser said.

In September, 15 medical students tested positive with asymptomatic to mild symptoms. Schlosser said the students reportedly came from a face-to-face community immersion but the cause of transmission was not confirmed.

However, the spokesperson revealed that they also record Covid-19 deaths among the younger population of school-age kids between five to 17 years old.

“This means we still have cases among them basin wala lang na-detect kasi (maybe it wasn't detected because) a lot of our cases are actually asymptomatic,” she said.

With this, parents are encouraged to vaccinate their kids against Covid-19 since Schlosser has previously said that vaccination coverage among five to 11 years old remains low. ICM
