A FORMER inmate was shot dead by an unidentified assailant on board a motorcycle in Barangay 16, Bacolod City shortly before noon Friday, November 25, 2022.

Major Ramel Sarona, commander of Police Station 1, identified the victim as Mark Christian John Luceño, 31, a resident of Purok Malipayon in the city’s Barangay 35.

Sarona said Luceño was sitting in a pedicab in Purok Kingfisher when the suspect arrived on a motorcycle, alighted, stopped by the victim’s side and shot him before fleeing.

The victim sustained a gunshot wound behind his head and died on the spot.

Police recovered from the scene of the crime an empty fired cartridge of .45 caliber pistol.

Sarona said Luceño was imprisoned for the crime of robbery and was released in 2021.

He said the victim was involved in several robbery and theft incidents in various barangays in the city.

The victim was also reportedly involved in illegal gambling, the police official said.

The investigators are looking into a grudge as a possible motive in the crime.

Sarona said they already have witnesses but they failed to determine the identity of the suspect since he was wearing a helmet when committing the crime.

He said they will also check the security cameras in the area, adding that the investigation is still ongoing to identify and arrest the suspect.
