Some Lakers fans are already calling it a lost season for their franchise this early. They are currently 5-1 through their last six games but they are still mired at 13th place in the Western Conference.
Sure, there’s still a lot of basketball to be played but there are those who insist that Lebron James’ focus now is not on winning another championship. Passing Kareem Abdul Jabbar on the all-time scoring list is.
LeBron has missed several games this season, but if he continues on his current scoring average, which is 24.5 points per game, he might break it somewhere around games 45-50.
That is, however, if he can get back to full recovery and play all those games, including back-to-backs and score at least 24.5 every night.
That seems worrisome because there is always the danger that if he pushes his body too hard, he might get some type of injury here and there, at the ripe old basketball age of 37.
Yesterday, he returned to the lineup after missing five games and playing sloppy. While he did contribute 21 points in the expected victory over the lowly San Antonio Spurs he committed nine turnovers, the most he’s committed in four years.
Could the King be trying too hard?
FUENTES. The Last Round tolls the bell for former world champion Moises Fuentes, who passed away at the age of 37 after being placed in a medically induced coma following a knockout loss a year ago to David Cuellar.
Fuentes is no stranger to Pinoy fight fans as he fought our very own Donnie Nietes twice. Their first encounter resulted in a majority draw as Donnie looked sluggish and the younger, taller Fuentes took the fight to him.
But in the rematch, a much-improved “Ahas” showcased a slicker style and dominated Fuentes en route to a stoppage loss.
Sadly, Fuentes lost all his last three fights via knockout, an indication that both his mental and physical faculties could already have been slipping.
His high water moment came in 2012 after he defeated the legendary Ivan Calderon in a defense of the WBO world minimumweight crown.
