A GOVERNMENT employee and a security guard were injured in two separate incidents of accidental firing in Zamboanga City, the police reported Saturday, November 26, 2022.

The Zamboanga City Police Office (ZCPO) identified the victims as Abdulbasar Cuevas, 63, a quarantine inspector of the Bureau of Plant Industry; and Palwina Akmadol, 27, a security guard assigned with the Zamboanga City Electric Cooperative (Zamcelco).

Investigation showed that Cuevas was hit in the left hand when his licensed firearm accidentally went off after removing his bag from his shoulder while together with a friend, Ibrahim Talib, 43, at a local fast food along Panigayan Street in Zone 4 village, Zamboanga City around 2:30 p.m. Friday.

Cuevas was taken to the hospital for treatment while his firearm, a caliber .45 pistol with complete documents, was placed under the custody of ZCPO’s Station 11.

The police said Akmadol was wounded in an accidental firing around 9:18 p.m. Friday at the compound of Zamcelco in Putik village, Zamboanga City.

Investigation showed that Ibrahim Suani, the incoming security guard, accidentally squeezed the trigger of the 12-gauge shotgun he was cleaning hitting Akmadol, the outgoing guard.

Akmadol was hit on her left hand and lower hip and was rushed to Zamboanga City Medical Center for treatment.

She is in stable condition.
