AROUND 43 areas in nine barangays in Lapu-Lapu City have been identified as designated community firecracker display areas (CFDA) during the Christmas season.

The 43 designated CFDAs will be placed in Barangay Agus, Suba-Basbas, Babag, Calawisan, Gun-ob, Looc, Poblacion, Bankal and Buaya.

Apart from that, firecrackers and pyrotechnics authorized and designated zones are only along the road from Corner Kinalumsan, Barangay Canjulao, pass crossing Barangay Calawisan to Tacan, Barangay Babag including Sitio Road.

Col. Elmer Lim, Lapu-Lapu City Police Office director, told reporters on Monday, Nov. 28, 2022, that the CFDAs were established in order for the city’s registered firecracker sellers to be able to sell and test their products without any risk of danger.

Lim said they will be putting up a list of guidelines before they will allow firecracker sellers to start selling their products.

He said there will be police personnel who will do roving or monitoring in the CFDAs. Barangay personnel and other force multipliers will also be tapped to help in monitoring the CFDAs, Lim added.

He also prohibited the selling of firecrackers outside their CFDAs or the selling of firecrackers without a retail permit from the city.

Lim said the city government usually gives permits to firecracker retailers starting Dec. 15.

Another inspection is expected to ensure that the guidelines set by the Lapu-Lapu City Government, including the manufacturing areas, are being implemented.

LCPO, along with other agencies concerned, conducted inspection on the three firecracker and pyrotechnics manufacturers in Barangay Babag on Friday, Nov. 25.

Lim said this is to ensure the manufacturer’s level of compliance with the rules and guidelines set forth by the police to avoid mishaps in fireworks and manufacturing sites and prevent injuries to the workers. (MKG)
