Mayor: Meralco’s entry to boost investors’ confidence

SAN SIMON The entry of Manila Electric Company (Meralco) in the province’s fourth district will boost the confidence of investors in this town.

This was according to Mayor Abundio “Jun” Punsalan Jr. as he underscored his support to the proposed expansion of Meralco in the province.

Punsalan was among the six mayors who met with Meralco Chairman Manny V. Pangilinan recently.

The mayors urge Pangilinan to expand the power firm's operation in the province.

“We cannot afford to wait. Kailangan na po bumaba ang presyo ng kuryente. Kailangan na po magpush through ang joint venture between Meralco and Pelco-3 (Pampanga III Electric Cooperative),” he said.

Currently, Pelco-3 is servicing 13 out of the 14 barangays of San Simon while Barangay Concepcion is already under Meralco.

He said the investors have been raising concern about the quality and supply of electricity in town.

“Ang dami ko pong kausap na investors pero ang unang-unang tanong nila ay ‘yung supply ng kuryente. Pano ko po sasagutin na mag-iinvest sila kung wala naman ako ma-supply na kuryente,” he said.

Punsalan said if the joint venture between two power providers pushes through, it will stabilize the supply and price of electricity in their town.

“Kapag may maayos na supply at siyempre murang presyo ng kuryente, mas mapapadali po ang pag-invite natin ng investors,” he said.

San Simon is host to various industrial plants which require high voltage power supply.
