San Fernando mayor puts focus on youth’s mental health care

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO “The mental health of every Fernandino youth is important.”

Thus said Mayor Vilma Caluag of this city as she delivered the State of the Children Address on Tuesday morning.

The lady mayor said mental health is among the top problems concerning youth nowadays.

“Marami tayong nababalitaan na hindi kinakaya ang problema lalo na dahil wala silang nakakausap at ‘yun ang gusto natin pagtuonan ng pansin,” she said.

Caluag said the City Health Office (CHO) provides counseling and psychiatric care to every Fernandino who needs assistance.

She added that medicines that can help those suffering mental illnesses such as depression and anxiety disorders.

“Gusto natin ipaalam na meron tayong doctor na pwede nilang makausap. Lumapit lang po sila sa CHO at meron po tayong programa para dito,” Caluag said.

Caluag also urged parents to make time and listen to their children.

“Naiintindihan po natin na may trabaho ang ibang parents pero bigyan po natin ng oras ang mga bata. Lalo na at sila talaga ay mabilis mag-absorb ng emotions kaya dapat parati silang nareremind na mahalaga sila,” she said.
