Comelec sets voter registration sched for upcoming elections

THE Commission on Elections (Comelec) announced on Wednesday, November 30, 2022, the schedule for the resumption of voter registration both here and abroad for the upcoming elections.

Comelec spokesperson Director John Rex Laudiangco said overseas voter registration will start on December 9, 2022 on most of the Philippine Embassies and Consulate Generals Worldwide but those that only operate from Sunday to Thursday will start on December 11.

He said the Office for Overseas Voting in Manila will also accept the registration of voters that are due to work abroad, but would want to participate in the 2025 mid-term elections.

The overseas voting registration will be until September 30, 2024.

Registration for first time Sangguniang Kabataan election voters and regular voters; transfer of voter registration record; reactivation of voting status; correction or change of entries in the voter registration record will resume on December 12 until January 31, 2023.

On October 10, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. signed into law Republic Act 11935, which rescheduled the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Elections from December 2022 to October 2023.

Laudiangco said the Register Anywhere Project pilot testing will be held during the weekends from December 17, which will last until January 22, 2023.

The pilot testing of the RAP will be held in five malls located within Metro Manila such as the SM Fairview, SM Mall of Asia, SM South Mall, Robinsons Place Manila and Robinsons Galleria.

Laudiangco said the Comelec is also eyeing to include the Senate, the House of Representatives, Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) main office, Regions 5 and 8 as additional places for the pilot testing of the project.

Meanwhile, Laudiangco said the plebiscite in Baliuag, Bulacan for its cityhood status will be held on December 17, while the special election for the member of the House of Representatives of the seventh district in replacement of Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla will be on February 25, 2023.
