TEN firearms and one grenade were turned over to the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) Cebu City Field Unit (FU) during its campaign against loose firearms between November 21 and 27, 2022.
The CIDG Cebu City FU also arrested people during the serving of search warrants against individuals with unlicensed firearms.
Colonel Peter Miguel Tagtag Jr., CIDG Central Visayas chief, said they continue to coordinate with barangays to urge members of the public to surrender their unlicensed firearms and inform them of the consequences if they don’t.
Tagtag said violators will not only face arrest but they will also be charged with illegal possession of firearms.
“My advice is to refrain from buying a cheap local handgun because not only is it not reliable but it is also not registered. Owners will have a problem when we conduct our operations against loose firearms because they will automatically become persons of interest and subject of future operations,” he said in Tagalog.
In Cebu City, Tagtag said they arrested six people who were all found with weapons during a one-day synchronized anti-criminality and law enforcement operation from 11:59 p.m. on Monday, November 28, to 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday, November 29.
As many as 39 drug personalities were also caught in 32 anti-illegal drugs operations that resulted in the seizure of 419.79 grams of shabu worth P2,854,572.
They also arrested 72 persons for illegal gambling and took into custody 22 persons who had arrest warrants. (AYB)
