THE Police Regional Office-Davao Region (PRO-Davao) strengthened its campaign against hazing after the recent incident involving the death of a college student.

“We have been coordinating with the school heads and of course ‘yong information dissemination with regards to the Anti-Hazing Law,” PMaj. Eudisan Gultiano, PRO-Davao spokesperson, said in an interview during the AFP-PNP Press Conference at The Royal Mandaya Hotel on Wednesday, November 30, 2022.

Although Gultiano said the hazing incident that happened in September 2022 is an isolated case, they have still expanded their campaign among the youth.

“We are informing them of the peril of joining a fraternity na merong violence or nagpo-promote ng violence (that has a [history of] violence or promotes violence),” she said.

She added that they are also promoting youth organizations that are helping them in promoting campaigns against violence like Kabataan Kontra Droga at Terorismo (KKDAT).

Aside from youth programs, the President of Holy Cross of Davao College, Bro. Noelvic H. Deloria said to avoid students from getting involved in fraternities, there should be a strong office of student affairs.

“Kasi sila ‘yong very closely connected to the student government and this student government is really officers that are empowered to help their fellow students,” Deloria said.

He added that there should also be support from the guidance office and integral evangelization office to address the social and spiritual aspects of the student.

“It is very important in finding meaning in life, it's not only about getting a degree but its finding meaning and purpose of our life,” Deloria said.

Meanwhile, PCol. Alberto Lupaz, Director of the Davao City Police Office (DCPO), said they already filed the case against the people involved in the hazing but there are four people at large.

On September 18, 2022, a student from the University of Mindanao died due to hazing while one student was in critical condition, and both were neophyte members of the AKRHO Alpha Delta fraternity. KSD
