Comelec prints over 100,000 ballots for Baliwag plebiscite

FIFTEEN days before holding the plebiscite, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Friday, December 2, 2022, successfully printed over 100,000 official ballots to be used by voters of Baliwag, Bulacan.

In a brief statement, Comelec Spokesperson John Rex Laudiangco said the National Printing Office has already completed printing the 108,572 official ballots in just a matter of hours.

"Printing of 108,572 official ballots for the December 17, 2022 Baliwag plebiscite completed as of 10:58 a.m., December 2, 2022, by the National Printing Office," said Laudiangco.

The number of ballots printed are equivalent to the total number of registered voters in Baliwag, Bulacan.

After printing, he said the ballots will be subjected to sheeting and cutting.

Laudiangco said the ballots will undergo verification and checking in order to ensure quality and quantity.

Republic Act (RA) 11929, or the law converting the Municipality of Baliwag in the province of Bulacan into a component city, was passed on July 29, 2022.

RA 11929 calls for the conduct of a plebiscite to be held in Baliwag for the ratification of the law through a majority of votes cast by registered voters. (HDT/SunStar Philippines)
